Located some 300ft. above sea level is a hillock in Thiruvananthapuram which is noted for its 8th-century rock-cut temple and stunning locale. A favorite among nature and history enthusiasts alike, Madavoorpara offers a panoramic view of the whole of Thiruvananthapuram and is noted for its unique bamboo bridge. A hike up to the crest of the hillock is highly rewarding and so is the climb towards the ancient rock-cut temple. The sanctum sanctorum carved out of rock holds the idol of Lord Shiva. The area was taken over by the Department of Archaeology in 1960. Situated near Kazhakuttam in the capital city, this place is now a proud symbol of the Responsible Tourism Mission.
