The temple in Attukal, Thiruvananthapuram, has Goddess Bhadrakali (Kannaki) as the main deity. Bhadrakali, according to Hindu mythology is the Goddess of prosperity and salvation. The temple is famous for its annual Pongala festival which sees women belonging to all faith congregating to celebrate the divine power. This festival sees women offering Pongala, a ritual offering, to the deity. The festival has also entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest gathering of women in the world.
